Today, President Cyril Ramaphosa is anticipated to give the State of the Nation Address (SONA).
For the public to learn what the administration has planned and prioritised for the year, the SONA represents a crucial moment.
All eyes are on the president to provide answers due to South Africa’s continued record load shedding and cash-strapped customers struggling to survive in the face of a cost of living crisis. It is anticipated that the speech would emphasise challenges and provide strategies for facilitating development objectives in the ensuing fiscal year.
There are signs that the president will give the ongoing electrical problem, widespread crime, suffering customers, jobs, and expanded social aid special attention.
The 2018 SONA is anticipated to be one of the most significant ever, according to Michael Currin, acting director general of government communications.
The public has been calling on public officials to be better and fulfil their obligations as duly elected representatives, and Currin added that this year’s SONA will serve as a “wake-up call” to them.
“First, it is true that the world economy is seeing very little growth. I’m hoping that South Africans in general—and industry and labor, in particular—understand that at this SONA, initiatives are necessary to spur economic development,” said Currin
“Secondly, there are numerous concerns that we are aware of, so it’s a watershed moment. We are aware of the energy shortages, the widespread criminal activities, and other difficulties, and we must move decisively to address them,” he added.
