A whistle-blower’s tip helped authorities uncover and thwart an alleged plot targeting a senior official in the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has praised the whistle-blower for coming forward, saying the information may have prevented the loss of lives.
According to the minister, the alleged plot was linked to the official’s refusal to approve questionable contracts.
After receiving the information, the department acted swiftly to investigate the allegations. Law enforcement agencies subsequently conducted a threat assessment and provided the targeted official and her family with protection.
Minister Kubayi thanked law enforcement authorities for their rapid response and security measures, stressing the importance of whistle-blowers in exposing corruption and wrongdoing within government.
“Whistle-blowers are critical to our fight against corruption because they help uncover what we would never have been able to uncover without them speaking out. Thanks to this courageous whistle-blower, lives were saved,” Kubayi said.
The minister also urged public servants to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and reject unlawful dealings, emphasising that ethical conduct is essential to maintaining public trust.
Kubayi expressed confidence that law enforcement agencies would continue protecting the official and work to eliminate the alleged threat.
The incident has once again highlighted the critical role whistle-blowers play in exposing suspected corruption and protecting public institutions.
