The Women’s Indian Premier League (WPL), which begins on Saturday, is poised to feature a star-studded Proteas lineup, with four South Africans signed at last month’s costly auction.

This year’s WPL will include 22 matches, with the Gujarat Giants taking against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday.

The competition comes a week after the Women’s T20 World Cup, which saw Australia win their sixth championship after defeating South Africa in the final at Newlands in Cape Town.

Five teams will play each other twice in a group stage, with the top three progressing to the play-off stage.

The team that finishes at the top of the log will automatically reach the final, while the second and third-placed teams will have to compete in an eliminator. The final will take place on March 26.

List of WPL teams:

  • Gujarat Giants
  • UP Warriorz
  • Mumbai Indians
  • Delhi Capitals
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore

List of Proteas players:

  • Shabnim Ismail – UP Warriors (R 2.16M)
  • Marizanne Kapp – Delhi Capitals (R 3.2M)
  • Chloe Tryon – Mumbai Indians (R 650k)
  • Dané van Niekerk – Royal Challengers Bangalore (R 650k)
