In the Senzo Meyiwa trial, the upcoming state witness has asked that no audio or visual recordings of her be made because she does not want to have her evidence aired.

The witness has not yet been presented by the state to the Pretoria high court as of Monday morning. State Advocate George Baloyi claims that the witness is concerned about being “ridiculed”.

“The witness has no objection to journalists being present and reporting her testimony after she has finished,” said Baloyi.

Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Thwala, two of Meyiwa’s close friends of Meyiwa, have previously testified in court.

The soccer star was shot and killed during what was reportedly a botched heist in front of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi, sister Zandi, Zandi’s boyfriend Longwe Twala, as well as Meyiwa’s friends Thwala and Madlala.

For the murder of the football player, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are on trial. Premeditated murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, possession of ammunition, possession of firearms while unlicensed, and premeditated murder are the charges against them.

The trial was then moved to Wednesday after the media requested legal counsel to contest the terms.

The trial continues.
