A 26-year-old man was stabbed to death, while trying to break up a fight among a group of learners at Tornado in Modderspruit, outside Rustenburg .

Sechaba Morwane was fatally stabbed three times in the back, when he was trying to help a learner, who is his neighbour, who was involved  in a fight with a group of learners.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased had managed to stop the learners from attacking his neighbour, then went to the shops and when he came back, he saw that the learners were still attacking his neighbour and he tried to stop them for the second time, and he was brutally stabbed.

Morwane’s aunt, Mimi Morwane expressed the family’s devastation saying all her nephew was trying to do was help.

“As a family we’re devastated by what has happened to our child, more especially that he was trying to break up a fight between a group of learners, who were attacking our neighbour’s child. Sechaba became a hero by protecting our neighbour child against bullies, but was killed for that.

“We’re hurt and broken. This incident has left the family and the community of Bapong  shuttered, because our kids are being killed by bullies at schools. Our request as a family is for communities to help curb the increase of bullying in our schools. Our child was killed like a dog and left in a pool of blood, said Morwane.

Three of the learners who were involved in the incident have been arrested and are expected to soon appear in a local court.

Morwane will be laid to rest on Saturday at the Bapong cemetery.
