Two suspects linked to the housebreaking and theft of over 4 million US dollars at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in Limpopo in February 2020, are expected to appear before the Bela Bela Magistrate’s court on 07 November 2023.

The pair was apprehended over the weekend in Rustenburg and Bela Bela, respectively.

“The two suspects aged 39 and 30 were arrested on Sunday 05 November and Monday 06 November on charges of house breaking and theft,’’ said Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale.

The robbery came to light after former State Security Director-General, Arthur Fraser alleged that Ramaphosa attempted to cover up the robbery, as the stolen US dollars were allegedly not declared with the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

An independent panel that was established in terms of the Section 89 of the Constitution to investigate whether the president had a case to answer in the matter found that he may be guilty of a serious violation of the constitution.

Ramaphosa however rejected the findings of the report that suggested he violated his oath of office.

‘’I categorically deny that I have violated this oath in any way, and I similarly deny that I am guilty of any of the allegations made against me’’, read the statement issued by the South African presidency.

The report was brought to the National Assembly and required 50% of members of parliament to vote in support for it to proceed with impeachment processes against Ramaphosa, but the threshold was not reached.

Then acting Public Protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka also cleared Ramaphosa of any wrongdoing.

Colonel Mogane added that the arrest of a third suspect is imminent.
