Police officers who allegedly assaulted two learners from Rakoko Secondary School in Mabeskraal at the Moses Kotane Local municipality, are facing investigations by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
The provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone revealed this.
Mokgwabone says SAPS management in the province have noted with concern allegations that the officers assaulted learners during a safer school awareness with other stakeholders.
It is reported that some learners were taken to a separate classroom where the alleged assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm occurred.
“Consequent to the incident, two counts of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm were registered.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating,” said Mokgwabone.
Mokgwabone, who urged the public to exercise patience and allow investigations to unfold, warned that SAPS management does not tolerate unprofessional conduct by its members.
Meanwhile, EFF spokesperson in the province Fanon Moema condemned the use of corporal punishment.
“It can’t be that three decades into democratic dispensation we still have a situation where corporal punishment is used.
Despite the fact that our society is faced with social challenges,” said Moema.
Moema added that the party will offer the victims necessary support and initiate proper investigations to ensure that action is taken against the alleged perpetrators.
