Tributes continue to pour in following the untimely death of Afro-Pop singer Winnie Khumalo.

Khumalo died while she was being driven to the hospital on Tuesday following a short illness aged 51.

Her music industry colleagues took to social media expressing shock and sadness.

Speaking to Newsnote, a popular music producer Godfrey Pilane well known as Guffy said he was still shocked by the passing of the “Live my Life” hitmaker.

Pilane sent condolences to Khumalo’s family adding that her death was a great loss in the music industry.

“The passing of Winnie Khumalo came as a shock to me ;I was with her in December, and she didn’t look unwell at all.   She was big in the industry, and she had a great impact,” said Guffy.

Guffy adds that her death is a great loss in the industry. He described Khumalo as a happy and loving person.

Her record label Kalawa Jazmee confirmed the sad news in a short media statement on social media and described her as a true icon.

“A true icon, Winnie Khumalo made a remarkable contribution to the South African music scene, inspiring many with a powerful voice and unforgettable performances. Her passion, talent, and dedication to her craft have left an indelible mark on the industry and in the hearts of her fans”, reads the state

According to Guffy, they were planning to work together with Kalawa Jazmee in Khumalo’s up-and-coming albums.

She was born in Mofolo in Soweto and started her music career as a backup singer of the legend Brenda Fassie in the 1980s with her debut album titled  “Hey Laitie” released in 1988.

She worked with the likes of Sello Chicco Twala among others.
