Banyana Banyana Head Coach, Dr Desiree Ellis has named the final squad of 26 players who will represent the country at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be played on 5-26 July 2025 in Morocco.

Ellis believes the squad has the required flexibility to clinch the title.

“Getting the right mix of players was very important for us.

Our recent friendlies showed the versatility within our ranks and our versatility will be key for us in Morocco.

Refiloe Jane for example has played every position on the field except as goalkeeper.

Lebohang Ramalepe can play both as a defender and as an attacking winger,” Ellis explained.

A notable absence is by the team’s striker, Thembi Kgatlana, who cited personal reasons for missing their WAFCON campaign.

Despite this, Ellis is confident that the team comprises of a balanced mix of new and experienced players, which she believes was made possible by strengthening squad depth in the past months.

Banyana are drawn in Group B where they will face Ghana, Tanzania and Mali.

Their opening clash will be on the 7th followed by Tanzania on the 11th and their final fixture is scheduled on the 16th of July against Mali.

Ellis is adamant that they stand a good chance of defending the title as they did when they won WAFCON in 2022.

She said they head into the tournament prepared, ready to defend the title and bring the trophy home.
