Controversial media personality and musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been arrested in connection with an alleged kidnapping and shooting incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg.

According to police, the 45-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday morning on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice.

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 07:30 after an e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale.

The suspect allegedly confronted the driver, accusing him of having a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko stated that the suspect allegedly forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene.

During the confrontation, it is further alleged that the suspect discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. The e-hailing driver reportedly escaped unharmed and made his way to a nearby police station, where he opened a case.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after the incident, and investigations are ongoing.

Maarohanye is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
