Ferrari Formula 1 fans were treated to an unexpected dose of fun when drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc staged a playful “hack” of the team’s official Instagram account.
The duo delighted followers by posting a series of light-hearted, unauthorised videos featuring playful filters. They even changed the page’s profile picture to something less conventional.
Ferrari joined in on the fun, issuing a tongue-in-cheek “unofficial statement” to keep the joke going:
“Scuderia Ferrari HP confirms that, over the past two hours, two individuals within the organisation gained unauthorised control of our social media channels. During this period, a series of highly questionable editorial decisions were made, including changes to our profile picture and the publication of content that did not undergo our standard approval procedures.
“We can confirm that the two suspects have been identified and the situation has now been contained. Full control of our accounts has been restored. We thank our fans for their understanding during this unprecedented incident,” Ferrari wrote.
Fans responded enthusiastically, flooding the post with more than 13,000 comments.
Popular reactions included @srymof’s plea to “bring back the profile picture” and @ritafreitas16’s simple request: “Please, do it again.” Another fan, @barclay2271, suggested making it a regular event, writing: “Loved it so much, it should be a weekly pre-game thing.”
This refreshing display of humour and approachability comes just ahead of Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Notably, Ferrari is reportedly the only top team not introducing car updates for the race, while rivals McLaren, Mercedes and Red Bull have all submitted details of their planned changes.
