The white woman who sent a voice note with racist overtones, calling for black men to be killed and black women to be sterilised, rather than ban the breeding and ownership of pitbulls, will appear in court on March 27 next year.

Belinda Magor, aged 60, faces charges of Crimen Injuria. She was arrested on Saturday and released the same day on a warning.

Last week, Magor’s audio, where referred to blacks as rapists and murderers and called for their killing and burning instead of a imposing a ban on pitbulls ban, went viral across all media in South Africa.

On the audio, which was captured from a pit bull lobby group, she is also heard calling for the sterilisation of black women to prevent them from having black children.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the case was opened on November 25 at Boksburg North and transferred to Putfontein police station for investigation.

A Human Rights Commission lawyer Mametlwe Sebei said such sentiments shouldn’t or ought not have a place in a nonracial democratic society.

“It is only through an end of this system, a system of capitalism, racism, gender-based violence and every form of  violence that is taught about human relations and human sentiments. This must be brought to an end in a society,” he said.

Since the voice note was circulated, several groups have called for Magor’s words not to be treated lightly by the justice system. Her utterances have caused an outrage and Sebei also called for her to be punished.

“We think that this criminal must be held to account to the maximum prejudice allowed in law; she must be condemned by the society and the criminal justice system to years in prison,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by the ANC in Ekurhuleni who pledged to shut down her accounting business in Benoni. ANC Ekurhuleni spokesperson Lesiba Mpya said the party will confront Magor.

“We will visit Belinda to show her that blacks’ lives matter. We are extremely hurt and angered; her sentiments have no place in a democratic South Africa.

“She probably has black clients in her accounting business. We are going to be taking the battlefield to her backyard; in claiming our dignity, she has stripped the black people of their dignity,” he said.
