The Rustenburg Mayoral Committee Member for Infrastructure Thabang Rampuo, led the community of Boitekong during a prayer service held at Boitekong Secondary School near Rustenburg, North West, to appeal for divine intervention for reduced road fatalities during the Easter weekend.
Rustenburg, like the rest of the province, has been experiencing increased service delivery protests and so far authorities have failed to do something about the crumbling infrastructure. But Rampuo said they are working tirelessly to improve service delivery in the area, and they will continue putting residents first.
Rampuo said the prayer service was held with the belief that a divine intervention was needed to deal with the scourge of kids taking drugs in Boitekong and other societal ills that afflict residents in the area.
“We need to thank God in everything we do, we have a serious problem in this area where young kids are using drugs, destroying their lives and even dying. We are trying to ask for mercy and protection from the Almighty.
“During the Easter holidays, people drink and drive recklessly, so we need God’s interference. We are also tired of people who sell drugs to young people. On the issue of service delivery, we continue to deliver services to our people, we have so far fixed leaking waters, sewage spills and continue to do more for them, said Rampou.
Rampou has urged the youth to stay away from drugs and rather focus on their studies. He said he is proud that for the first time in Boitekong, there’s a school which received 98,7% pass rate in last year’s Matric results.
