The case against ANC Member of Parliament Sibusiso Kula was on Tuesday postponed by the Orkney Magistrates Court in the North West. Kula is facing charges of killing his wife last November and the case was postponed to April 17 for further investigations. Kula was denied bail in January and in February however, he took the matter to the North West High court to appeal the judgement and the matter was struck off the court roll. The Health and Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) has slammed its rival, the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu), for going on strike in the public sector. The strike had turned violent in some areas where the workers were seen trying to stop doctors from entering a hospital. In another area, the workers had barricaded the hospital entrance with burning debris, making it impossible for emergency vehicles and other cars to enter the hospital. The 48-year-old domestic worker from Bloemhof in the North West, who was badly disfigured after she was attacked allegedly by her employer’s pitbulls, can now speak easier after undergoing reconstructive surgery last month. Dipuo Kokolosi was attacked by three pitbulls in January and her ear, nose and part of her lips were torn off in the vicious mauling. The newly appointed ANC National Executive Committee deployees are expected to be introduced this weekend when the party will be holding its Regional General Councils (RGCs) in all the regions in the North West. A meningitis vaccination program is underway at the Potchefstroom campus of North West University with the goal of immunizing about 1000 students this year following reports of three cases of infection last. According to the institution each shot will cost R750 and students are advised to get shots to prevent meningitis, especially the most susceptible ones, those between the ages of 18 and 32. A group of 28 cyclists, who are on their way from Johannesburg to Cape Town, put a smile on the faces of needy residents of Jouberton in the North West by giving them 45 food parcels. The Extreme Ride For Hunger Cycle group, is on a quest to raise funds to alleviate hunger in the country and is part of meals on wheels community services. As floods continues to damage houses situated near flooded river banks, residents of Orkney outside Klerksdorp who live near the banks of the Vaal Dam were given an hour to evacuate their houses on Monday after the Department of Water and Sanitation was forced to open up 12 sluice gates to relieve pressure on the dam. Two people have been killed and two more are fighting for their lives in hospital after a weekend shooting at a local bottle store in Jouberton outside Klerksdorp in the North West. The motive for the shooting is unknown, and the alleged perpetrators are said to have left in a minibus.
