In a dramatic turn of events that resonates with echoes of political discontent, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have ramped up their stance against President Cyril Ramaphosa, warning that the investigation into the infamous Phala Phala farm theft must not lose momentum. The party argues that failing to hold the president accountable for alleged corruption undermines South Africa’s democratic integrity. The scandal originally came to light when former intelligence head Arthur Fraser disclosed that a staggering $4 million (approximately R60 million) was reported stolen from Ramaphosa’s game farm, located in the picturesque Lephalale, Limpopo. Although President Ramaphosa has acknowledged that…

The same way me and President Ramaphosa are very good. But it doesn’t stop me from saying he is corrupt,” Malema…

The South African government is undertaking a significant initiative to register thousands of spaza shops as part of a broader effort to curb the alarming rise in deaths caused by contaminated food purchased from these informal food outlets. The move comes at a time of heightened tension, as the anti-immigrant pressure group, Operation Dudula, has vocally rejected government interventions aimed at including foreign nationals in the registration process. Spaza shops, which play a crucial role in the informal economy, have been predominantly run by foreign nationals. The dominance of these establishments by immigrants has ignited sporadic xenophobic violence, especially as…

Ramaphosa announced a series of measures in response to rising deaths caused by contaminated food purchased from Spaza Shops. There’s been more than 800 incidents of food poisoning reported in 2024 alone with at least 23 children having been confirmed dead as a result of such contamination. On Tuesday Gauteng finance MEC Lebogang Maile led a provincial government delegation in a meeting with the province’s 11 municipalities to agree on how registration is…
