The South African Government has filed a case to institute proceedings against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of the United Nations. The case is filed under the Genocide Convention, regarding atrocities committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. The Alexandra Regional Court has denied 21-year-old student Bafana Mahungela bail. He’s accused of murdering Sandton schoolteacher Kirsten Kluyts, in October this year. The 21-year-old student has also been charged with rape, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. According to the state, Mahungela followed Kluyts near the Sandton Sports Club where she was taking part in a running event, before he allegedly raped her, killed her, and removed her clothes. The state’s version is supported by CCTV footage, which showed the accused following the suspect before he allegedly killed her, and later seen wearing her T-shirt. South Africa’s theatre producer, choreographer, and musician Mbongeni Ngema has died following a head on collision in Mbizana, Eastern Cape between a truck and a sedan that he was traveling in. The 68-year-old Ngema passed away while being transferred to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital.Two other people were injured in the accident and taken to nearby health facilities. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving in rainy conditions. This as the South African Weather Services has forecast rain in most parts of the country, which may cause localised flooding. Several people have been killed and others reported missing after their cars were swept away by flash floods in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal. DStv Premiership club Moroka Swallows could be in trouble with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after they cancelled their clash with Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows. Fifty-one lives have been lost on North West roads, as of Christmas Day since the beginning of the festive season. According to the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, the fatalities were as a result of 72 crashes recorded in the province, with the majority of them happening between 18:00 and 00:00. The department is however encouraged that the crashes are still less than the same period when compared to the past two years. Russia has completed its shipments of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus, according to the country’s president, raising international concern. At a meeting of a Moscow-led economic bloc in St Petersburg, Alexander Lukashenko said the deliveries were finished in October – though he didn’t say how many or where they have been deployed. Tactical nuclear weapons, which are designed for use on the battlefield, have a short range and a low yield compared with much more powerful nuclear warheads fitted to long-range missiles. This was announced by the relegation-threatened club in a brief statement on Christmas Day. “Richards Bay Football Club would like to announce the release of Head Coach Mr. Kaitano Tembo with immediate effect.
