The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has confirmed that two more members have died on their mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC. Electricity Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said there has been significant progress to reduce load shedding to 600 hours during the December and January 2023/24 period, when compared to December and January 2022/23. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said the Treasury has no choice but to borrow into foreign exchange accounts to reduce the high debt service costs. This will see the introduction of a new reform of the Gold and Foreign Exchange Contingency Reserve Account (GFECRA).
