Motorists can expect to dig deeper into their coffers for this month, after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced steep fuel prices. President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government is working with various sectors to address challenges facing the mining industry. Ramaphosa was delivering a keynote address at the 30th Investing in African Mining Indaba held in Cape Town on Monday. The National Prosecuting Authority and rights group have called on the Johannesburg High Court to impose multiple life terms on convicted rapist and self proclaimed pastor Bheki Dingiso who was found guilty of raping scores of boys and young men who attended his church in Katlehong. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said more than 300 000 voters registered within the first few hours of the opening of voter registration centres on Saturday. This was the second registration weekend for the 2024 national and provincial elections. In the initial hours of this two-day registration, an impressive 304 221 voters had visited voting stations. The controversial auction of items belonging to former president Nelson Mandela has been suspended pending a court appeal by the South African Heritage Resource Agency (SAHRA). The items, which include the former statesmen identity document, a key to his cell at Robben Island, a pair of reading glasses, hearing aid, a pair of worn shoes and other personal items, were scheduled to be auctioned on 22 February 2024 in New York, USA, by Guernsey’s Auction House.
