Cricket South Africa has appointed Laura Wolvaardt as the Protea women’s permanent captain for all three formats of the game. Wolvaardt takes over the reins after a successful tenure as interim captain, where she led the team in back-to-back ODI series victories against New Zealand and the T20I series against Pakistan. The 24-year-old Wolvaardt took over from Sune Luus who captained the SA women during the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been granted parole effective from 5 January 2023. This was confirmed by the Department of Correctional Services on Friday.  Pistorius was found guilty of the murder of his then girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013 and sentenced to 13 years. “The parole placement decision was taken by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board having assessed Pistorius profile and other material submitted for the purposes of parole consideration. “Classified as a first-time offender with a positive support system, Pistorius parole placement is in line with Section 73 of the Correctional Services Act. “Parole placement forms…

The Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi, said he has signed an affidavit to set aside the controversial R5 billion Unemployment Insurance Fund, UIF and Thuja Capital jobs tender deal. This after Thuja Capital CEO Mthunzi Mdwaba made damning allegations that Nxesi, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande and ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, allegedly demanded a R500 million bribe from him. President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed the announcement by the State of Qatar that a four-day humanitarian pause has been agreed in the conflict in Gaza. In a statement, the President commended the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America on mediation efforts that will enable the release of Palestinian detainees and Israeli hostages. On Tuesday, Sergeant Batho Mogola refuted claims that two of the individuals charged with Senzo Meyiwa’s murder had been forcibly detained and tortured in order to extract confessions. The defense highlighted what they consider to be the police’s strategy for detaining the suspects in the football star’s murder. Former Eskom Chief Executive Officer Matshela Koko says he is vindicated after the Middleburg Magistrates Court struck off the roll the R2.2 billion Eskom Kusile fraud, corruption, and money-laundering charges case. The National Prosecuting Authority, NPA, is accusing Koko of siphoning the money to his family, friends, and other suspects. Presiding Magistrate Stanley Jacobs denied the NPA another postponement, struck the case of the roll, until the NPA and the National Director of Public Prosecutions got their house in order.
