The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has vowed to act against 45 non-compliant suppliers across the country. This after the commission through its nationwide compliance and monitoring inspections discovered that the suppliers were selling expired and spoiled food items. “During these inspections, the NCC discovered that some suppliers were selling expired and spoiled food items, including dairy products, meat products, maize meal, eggs, snacks, biscuits, and noodles. In some cases, items had no expiry or best-before dates (date markings). This violates Section 55(2) of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) which guarantees consumers the right to safe, usable, and good quality goods. …

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said it has received an overwhelming 206 000 applications for 5 500 trainee vacancies within 48 hours. The vacancies are for the police Basic Police Learning Development Training Programme (BPLDTP). Rand Water planned a second phase maintenance project on its key infrastructure commenced today in Gauteng, and was expected to impact some parts of the North West province. According to the utility, the objective of this planned maintenance is to increase capacity and improve plant availability, reliability, and operational efficiency. This project will disrupt water outages to several areas, and residents have been urged to use water sparingly and prepare for reduced water availability. The Democratic Alliance (DA) said it’ll not leave the Government of National Unity, following the dismissal of the party’s Deputy Minister of the party’s Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Andrew Whitfield. Whitfield was fired by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday, over an unsanctioned trip to the United States earlier this year. The Springboks started they’re 2025 season on a high note, when they trashed Barbarians 54-7 at the rainy DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday afternoon. It’s a first win for them over the Baa-Baas since 2000 though, so good to end that quarter-century long drought. President Cyril Ramaphosa has lambasted Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen and warned that he’ll not yield to threats and ultimatums. His comments come after the DA gave Ramaphosa 48hrs to reverse the dismissal of Andrew Whitfield from the position of Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition. Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has successfully contained the fire at the SAB Breweries in Soweto. According to the EMS, the fire erupted in the outdoor crate storage within the premises. “EMS Firefighting teams remain on scene, conducting salvaging and damping down operations to prevent any potential flare-ups. “Fortunately, the structure on the premises was not affected by the blaze and remains unscathed,” said EMS spokesperson, Xolile Khumalo.  “The blaze reportedly began when grass in a nearby field caught fire, spread quickly and ignited storage crates on the premises. “At this stage, no injuries have been reported.
