The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has dismissed as untrue and unfounded reports that the taxi industry has resolved to demand money from private vehicle drivers and impound their vehicles if they fail to pay the money. The association said such misinformation is circulating on social media platforms, and it discouraged the public from taking such unfounded reports seriously. In a bid to resolve the non-payment of scholar transport operators in the North West, the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management has implemented several measures. These include the establishment of a ‘War Room’ led by the Head of Department Dr Hans Kekana, disbursement of two payments per week and working closely with the Department of Education. Food company Tiger Brands has presented a settlement offer to attorneys representing plaintiffs in the listeriosis matter. According to the company, the offer was made by its attorneys QBE Insurance Group Limited to specific classes of claimants who suffered from listeriosis. The plaintiffs filed a class action against the company following the outbreak of listeriosis in the country in 2017 which affected more than 820 people and claimed 218 lives. The Communications Workers Union (CWU) has accused the two countries’ struggling Post Office Business Rescue Practitioners (BRP), Anoosh Rooplal and Juanito Damons, of failing to turn around the state of the parastatal and protect jobs since their appointment. SAPO was placed under business rescue in July 2023 with Rooplal and Damons appointed BRPs to help revitalise the SOE.
