The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed reports that it is planning to cancel the social grants of beneficiaries. The agency’s comments come as it is currently undertaking to ascertain the eligibility of identified beneficiaries suspected of having additional income that was not disclosed. Speaking on YouFM Newshour, SASSA spokesperson Andile Tshona, said the grants are delayed momentarily until a ‘suspected’ beneficiary has successfully completed the review process. Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa, has implored municipalities to ensure that the funds allocated for disasters are only meant for such purposes. The North West Department of Education has scooped ten trophies at the 2025 ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod music championship which were held at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg. The Portfolio Committee on Community Safety in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature has issued a strong warning to victims of crime, particularly victims of gender-based violence (GBV), urging them not to withdraw criminal cases against perpetrators. The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has vowed to act against 45 non-compliant suppliers across the country. This after the commission through its nationwide compliance and monitoring inspections discovered that the suppliers were selling expired and spoiled food items. “During these inspections, the NCC discovered that some suppliers were selling expired and spoiled food items, including dairy products, meat products, maize meal, eggs, snacks, biscuits, and noodles. In some cases, items had no expiry or best-before dates (date markings). This violates Section 55(2) of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) which guarantees consumers the right to safe, usable, and good quality goods. …
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said it has received an overwhelming 206 000 applications for 5 500 trainee vacancies within 48 hours. The vacancies are for the police Basic Police Learning Development Training Programme (BPLDTP).
