Two South African nationals who were released from detention in Equatorial Guinea following a Presidential Pardon, have arrived home. Peter Huxham and Frederic Potgieter were arrested in 2023 at a hotel in the capital Malabo, on drug related charges. They were subsequently sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment, but their families had vehemently maintained that the charges were trumped-up. The two, who are engineers, were working for SBM Offshore company in the west African country at the time of their arrests. The Gauteng Health Department has expressed concern over the increasing number of cases of measles in the province. Police are investigating the cause of the fire that left 23 buses burnt at a depot in Mabopane, north of Pretoria. According to authorities, the buses belong to Starline Bus Company. Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni says firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze and no injuries werereported. The fire was reported as a grassfire incident to the Emergency Communication Centre at about 12:16, and a fire engine was immediately dispatched from Mabopane Fire Station to the scene.
