The murder case against five men accused with the murder of musician Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, has been transferred to the Durban High Court. The accused are Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande, Siyanda Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Ndimande. “Today the state served an indictment on the accused, and the case was remanded to 08 May 2025 for the accused to make their first appearance in the Durban High Court. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has cautioned accommodation providers (landlords) to stop demanding a deposit or top-up payment from NSFAS-funded students. The scheme said it has been reliably informed that there are some landlords who require funded students to pay extra fees, to access the approved private accommodation. “The rent will be paid monthly to the accommodation provider (Lessor) by NSFAS on behalf of the Lessee (NSFAS funded student). The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has announced that the mission to repatriate the remains of 14 members of the SANDF, has been delayed until further notice. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced the fuel price adjustment with effect from 5 February. This is the second increase this year. “Both grades of petrol will increase by 82 cents per litre. Diesel will increase by R1.01 and R1.05 cents per litre. Illuminating paraffin will increase by R1.29 cents per litre at retail level. LP Gas will increase by 42 cents per kilogram,” said the department’s director of fuel pricing mechanism, Robert Maake. Police in Soweto have confirmed that two Rea Vaya bus drivers were shot and killed in two separate incidents at Protea Glen in Soweto, last night. Police said the motive for the shootings is unknown at this stage, and that they’re investigating cases of murder. “In the first incident, it is reported that the driver had stopped a robot along Wildchestnut street in Protea when he was shot and killed by unknown suspects. The North West Transport Investment (NTI) has condemned the torching of its nine buses at the Moretele village, near Makapanstad.According to the entity, the buses were burned in the early hours of Monday morning at a sleeping ground. The City of Joburg has sought to assure residents that the rehabilitation of Lilian Ngoyi Street in the CBD, will be completed by the end of August this year. This after the street, which previously known as Bree Street, was damaged following an underground gas explosion in 2023. The project was stalled following a legal stand-off between the municipality and previous contractor, Step-Up Engineering.
