The bail application of North West Development Corporation (NWDC) Chief Financial Officer, Kudakwashe Mpofu, has been postponed by the Mmabatho Magistrates’ Court in Mahikeng on Wednesday. The 33-year-old Mpofu, who is a Zimbabwean national, is facing charges of fraud and was arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation on Tuesday in Mahikeng. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the torching of 51 Putco buses in Nkangala District, Mpumalanga on Monday night. Police said their arrest emanates after a group of armed individuals driving a white Toyota Quantum, Vito Minibus and a VW Polo set fire to the buses at various Putco bus depots in the area. The buses were burned in the early hours of Tuesday at Putco’s depots in Moloto, Wolwekraal, Siyabushwa and Vaalbank. Thousands of people have been left homeless, after a fire destroyed over 200 shacks at the Selby Informal Settlement in Johannesburg. The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) the fire has been contained and that no casualties or injuries have been reported thus far. “At this stage we’re just extinguishing the hotspots, to make sure we don’t have any reignition of the fire.The cause of the fire is still a subject of investigations,” said EMS spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi. The Border Management Authority (BMA) and the South African Revenue Services (SARS) have suspended operations at the Oshoek port of entry with Eswatini following a serious accident involving a 32-ton coal truck earlier today. The truck allegedly experienced brake failure and descended towards Eswatini on the departure side of the port, before crashing into 10 stationery private vehicles, four SARS vehicles, and one SANDF bakkie, causing significant damage. Nine South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers have been killed and several others injured in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, during clashes with M23 rebels who were trying to reach the city of Goma. According to the SANDF, the South African contingent and its counterparts were able to halt the advancement of the rebel group towards Goma, which is a provincial capital of the DRC.
