A second illegal miner who resurfaced at the abandoned shaft 11 in Stilfontein, near Klerksdorp in the North West, has passed away. According to the provincial Department of Health, the deceased passed away on Thursday, due to a medical-related condition. “The Department of Health in the North West can confirm the death of another patient who was part of a cohort of 33 suspected illegal miners, admitted at Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital complex. Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has announced that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has increased for a second consecutive month, rising to 3,0% in December from 2,9% in November and 2,8% in October. The monthly rate in December was 0,1%. Inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages (NAB) was 2,5%, up from 2,3% in November. The case against alleged pornography distributor, Darren Wilken, has been postponed to 28 January to allow for further state investigations by the Randburg Regional Court. The 35-year-old Wilken is facing multiple charges, including multiple counts of possession, creation and distribution of child pornography, the Contravention of the Drug Trafficking Act, acquisition, possession/use of the proceeds of unlawful activities, possession of stolen property, and fraud. Police have sought out to clarify what it describes as misinformation and lies, following the aftermath of the rescue operation at the abandoned mine shaft in Stilfontein, North West. According to the police, top of the list is the dissemination of personal information of suspects arrested at the mine during the operation and the deceased.
