Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continue their dominance in the local league after being crowned the Hollywoodbets Super League Champions for the third consecutive season.
Banyana Ba Style were lagging from behind to claim a 4-2 victory over Richmond United at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium on Saturday, although they came into the encounter with the silverware already in their bag, having secured the title with 4 games to spare. Goals from Salome Kekana, Lelona Daweti, Melinda Kgadiete and Lehlogonolo Mashigo ensured the Chloorkop side finished with an impressive 27 wins out of 30 games played.
Coach Jerry Tshabalala’s charges scored 127 goals and walked away with 28 points this season, that’s 9 points more compared to the previous campaign, Masandawana also finished with a great goal difference of +113.
Sundowns have also pocketed R2 million for their efforts. On the Club’s website, Coach Tshabalala praised several stand-out players who stepped up their game throughout the campaign.
“I am happy with the way my players have excelled in our football philosophy and their maturity has been incredible. We saw how Lelona Daweti dazzled in various positions and how the young Khutso Pila showed her class whenever she was called upon. These are just a few examples of how several players within the team have improved.
Meanwhile, for the first time since 2019, (the inaugural season of the women’s semi professional league), two teams have been relegated to the SASOL Women’s League. Golden Ladies (only team from the North-West province) and Tsunami Queens ( Free Sate) will be going back to the Sasol League after being relegated from the Hollywoodbets Super League having finished in 15th and 16th place, respectively.
Limpopo’s Copperbelts Ladies and AmaTuks were promoted to the women’s league for the 2023 campaign.
The Hollywoodbets Super League season awards will be held on Saturday, 3 December 2022, in Johannesburg where individuals who excelled this season will be honoured.
