South African legendary musician and producer, Sello Twala, popularly known as Chicco, has upheld his son, Longwe’s innocence in the murder of former Orlando Pirates player and Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa.
The decade long investigations into the murder are ongoing at the Pretoria High Court in Johannesburg.
“Longwe is an adult. I think the defence, the police or the prosecutor want him, they know where to find him.
“On my side I don’t even know why I would be going there.
“For what?
“I was not there.
“The people who were in the house must be responsible for that. If it’s them, let the law take its course,” said Twala when he was speaking to the media at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
Twala also lambasted the defence in the Meyiwa case.
“The defence in this case are just doing this for publicity and money that’s how I see it.
They don’t have the interest in finding the real killer.
If you tell me my son is a thief, I will believe you, but he is not a murderer,” stressed Twala.
His comments come after the lawyer for accused one, Muzi Sibiya, Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, recently alleged that Longwe is the shooter they’ve been looking for, especially after Chicco’s firearm was brought in for testing.
This emerged during the cross-examination of state witness and ballistic expert, Colonel Chris Mangena,
“My concern is the ownership of the firearm.
What can associate Chicco Twala to the testing of the firearm is the presence of Longwe at the crime scene when Senzo was shot.
Chicco is the father to Longwe and there’s a theory that I’m going to prove later that Longwe is the one who fired a shot to Senzo Meyiwa,” argued Mngomezulu.
However, Mangena justified testing Chicco’s gun and told the court that it was not the only one that was sent for analysis.
He says there were other firearms he compared, and they all tested negative with the bullet that was found at the scene.
Mangena added that his concern was not to know who the owner of the firearm was.
Mngomezulu’s assertions emanate from Longwe being one of the people who were at the home of Meyiwa’s then girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, when Meyiwa was fatally shot and killed in 2014.
Meanwhile, Longwe’s case was postponed to September 12 for a bail application, as he has a previous conviction for shoplifting.
The charges against his brother, Sello, were dropped due to lack of evidence.
