A 35-year-old man has been arrested after police seized crystal methamphetamine worth an estimated R3 million during an intelligence-driven operation in Diepsloot on Sunday.
The operation was conducted by Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence officers, the West Rand Tactical Response Team, and the West Rand K9 Unit as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Gauteng.
According to police, officers acted on information about two men allegedly involved in drug dealing in the area. After identifying and searching a property in Diepsloot, police discovered a black refuse bag hidden under a mattress.
The bag contained approximately 10 kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth, with an estimated street value of R3 million.
A 35-year-old man who was found at the premises was arrested and charged with possession of drugs.
He is expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 June 2026.
Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrest and praised the officers involved in the operation.
“We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,” said Mthombeni.
Police said the arrest forms part of their ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and curb the distribution of illicit substances across Gauteng communities.
