Lando Norris produced a commanding drive to win the Miami Grand Prix Sprint on Saturday, leading a McLaren one-two finish ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri, as McLaren delivered their strongest performance of the season so far.
The result also marked the first defeat of the campaign for Mercedes, who had dominated the opening rounds.
Charles Leclerc finished third for Ferrari after a competitive race, while Mercedes pair Kimi Antonelli and George Russell came home fourth and fifth respectively.
Antonelli, who has been one of the standout performers of the season, extended his championship lead over Russell to 10 points, further cementing his status as a surprise title contender in his debut campaign.
The sprint result underlined a shift in momentum at the front of the grid, with McLaren showing strong race pace and improved tyre management compared to earlier rounds. Mercedes, meanwhile, will be analysing data closely ahead of Sunday’s main race in Miami, where crucial championship points will be on offer.
Teams are also already looking ahead to the next round of the season, the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, which follows after a short break. The gap between races is expected to give teams additional time to introduce further upgrades, potentially reshaping the competitive order once again.
With multiple teams bringing performance updates this weekend and more expected in Canada, the title battle is beginning to tighten, setting up a highly competitive stretch of the season as the championship heads deeper into the European and North American phases.
