Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has defended the online registration system saying it makes things easier and assured concerned parents that learners’ will be placed within 10-days.
“I know there are many parents that are queuing across the facilities but I trust the HOD and the MEC that within the next 10 days there will be tangible progress and all our children will be placed in all our schools.
“As a person who is given honor to lead this province, there will be no child without a teacher, there will be no children without textbooks, there will be no child without stationery in Gauteng.
“That is the commitment we make. Yes, there are administrative duties but we want to assure parents that our schools are ready to welcome them. And we are also ready to accommodate them in all our schools.
“We must not blame online registration. In fact, online registration makes things easier for us. There are some schools our community wouldn’t even dream of going to, had it not been for this system” said Lesufi.
Lesufi and Education MEC Matome Chiloane officiated a handover ceremony of Mapenane Secondary School in Ga-Rankuwa, City of Tshwane.
The academic year kicked off on Wednesday with some parents still waiting for pupils to be placed in schools. The Department said it has received 4801 appeals emanating from objected placements offered to applicants.
