A Limpopo police officer is behind bars for allegedly raping her own son.
The woman who was not identified to protect the victim was arrested and appeared in the Marble Hall Magistrates Court this week where she was remanded in custody until next Monday.
According to the provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, a case of rape of a minor was opened with additional charges of creating distributing child pornographic material and sexual grooming, was opened on Friday.
Mojapelo says soon after becoming aware of the video, Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe ordered the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit to conduct an immediate investigation into the incident, and the 12-year-old boy was taken to a place of safety for psychological treatment.
In a statement released by the SAPS on Thursday, Lieutenant General Hadebe strongly condemned the incident.
“The actions of this woman are deplorable and deserve harsh condemnation. Even though the suspect allegedly committed this crime when she was still a Public Service Act employee of the SAPS, she should have known better that such unbecoming behaviour deserved harsh consequences. The South African Police Service does not have the space for such people who tarnish its image.” Said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Civil Rights organization #NotInMyName, known for protecting women and children, said it is shocked by the incident and calls for harsher actions against the suspect.
Secretary General Themba Masango said what the woman did was evil.
“South Africa is known as the rape capital of the world. What is shocking is when mothers become predators, it cannot be accepted by society. We’re calling on all progressive forces to rise in condemnation of this heinous act” Masango said.
meanwhile, the Pretoria Magistrates court has sentenced a stepfather (38) from Eesterus to life imprisonment for the rape of his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
He was convicted of raping the victim multiple times at their home between 2018 and 2019 while the mother was working a night shift.
This was discovered after the child disclosed this to her teacher at school and the mother reported the matter to the police in 2019.
The NPA in Gauteng has welcomed the conviction and sentence.
