Businessman and alleged informer Tumelo Nku’s testimony before the Madlanga Commission has been temporarily adjourned to allow time for the supplementation and clarification of his evidence.
Nku, who began giving evidence on Thursday, has been implicated in the Aeroton drug consignment that was intercepted by police in Johannesburg in July 2021, a case that continues to form part of broader investigations under scrutiny at the commission.
Proceedings were halted after evidence leader Adv Teboho Mosikili requested a short adjournment to allow further consultation with Nku and to address new developments arising from his testimony.
Mosikili informed the commission that additional engagement was necessary before Nku’s statements could be finalised.
“There is a recent development that requires further interaction with Mr Nku and potentially the supplementation of some of the statements he has provided to the commission,” Mosikili said. He requested a temporary stand-down of about an hour to allow legal teams to reassess and provide further direction on the matter.
The commission is expected to resume once consultations have been completed.
