Messages of condolences continue to pour in for the member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Health at the Bojanala Platinum District, Pasture Maremo.
Maremo passed away on Thursday morning, following a fatal car accident on his way to Brits after attending a South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) meeting.
The Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality Mayor Khumalo Molefe has sent his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Maremo saying they are deeply hurt by his passing.
“Comrade Pasture was an ANC Councilor throughout, he was a member of the provincial executive committee of SANCO North West.
“Interestingly the PEC of SANCO held a meeting on Wednesday, which he chaired although he was a provincial organizing secretary because the provincial secretary was apparently delayed.
“After the meeting, I must say as the provincial chair of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and being a PEC member of SANCO, we had a good time together, for the whole day. After the PEC meeting we had lunch, and later on a relaxed session in Phokeng with other comrades.
“This accident has robbed us of a comrade who was good to be around, there was no way you could be around comrade Pasture and you didn’t laugh. He was very comical, he was full of jokes, but he was open, frank and brutally honest with issues. If we had an issue, he was the first to raise it.
“He was a good organiser, may his soul rest in peace and to his family, to the wife, the kids, members of the family and the community and largely his friends we want to pay our sincere condolences and ask God our good Lord that his revolutionary soul rest in eternal peace and rise in glory,” he said.
Maremo’s friend and Sanco’s provincial secretary, Packet Seaketso, said they were like brothers and that his death was a blow to the organisation.
“Pasture turned 63 last December and I’m turning 63 in March. We had a lot in common, we have been working together and it’s a loss not only to the organization but to the family of Pasture as well.
“I was like a twin brother to Pasture, I have been attending almost every event happening in the Maremo Family, including at Pastures house so it’s a blow and I don’t know, I’m just devastated but I believe whatever happened it’s the will of God, I can’t do anything but it’s a big blow, “said Seaketso.
