The 39-old police woman charged with raping her son, will remain in custody until her next court appearance on Thursday.
The woman who was not identified to protect the victim’s identity appeared in the Mdujane Magistrates Court on Monday following her arrest a week ago on charges including rape, sexual grooming, and creating and distributing pornographic material after she appeared in a video that went viral on social media.
The NPA spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Monica Nyuswa said due to the seriousness of the charges, the bail application will be opposed.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate IPID is also investigating the matter.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe ordered the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit to conduct an immediate investigation after seeing the video of the incident alleged to have happened in 2020.
