Almost two days after firing Eric Tinkler as their coach, Cape Town City has hired Muhsin Ertugral as their new Technical Director.
The Turkish-born mentor will serve as the club’s interim head coach until the end of the season.
“Muhsin brings a wealth of local and international football experience to the club’s future project, having most recently served as the Technical Advisor of the Turkish national team for the past four years. Muhsin will step in as head coach until the end of the current season, joining first team coaches Diogo Peral and Lebogang Manyama,” read a statement from the club.
The Citizens dismissed Tinkler on Tuesday following four seasons of mixed results at the club, worsened by the poor start in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.
Ertugral is no stranger to local football, after previously coaching Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Ajax Cape Town amongst others.
He last coached locally six years ago, when he infamously resigned live on TV whilst at the helm of Pirates, after the team was trounced 6-1 by SuperSport United.
Meanwhile, in other related football matters, Kwanele Kopo declined to extend his contract with Chippa United, when it expired on 31st December 2024.
The club has since appointed Thabo September as the new head coach, and he’ll be assisted by Mabhuti Khanyeza joining as his assistant.
Following the shocking departure of Clinton Larsen as Magesi FC head coach, the club has since appointed Owen Da Gama, as Larsen’s replacement.
