The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has confirmed that warrants of arrest were issued against Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and Head of Analysis and Coordination Major General Nosipho Madondo on Thursday.
Khumalo, who is Head of Crime Intelligence, and Madondo were contacted by IDAC investigators to present themselves at Brooklyn police station on Thursday.
The two are facing charges of fraud and corruption brought by IDAC.
However, according to NPA national spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago, the arrests were not executed as the two are part of a national task team.
“Subsequent to communication with the two officers, the IDAC received information that the affected officers were part of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster team that is assigned to prepare for a national security measure before and on 30 June 2026 in relation to immigration issues.
In the interest of ensuring synergy and efficiency in the work of that team, IDAC thus decided to suspend the execution of the warrants of arrest until the assignment of the two officers is completed,” said Kganyago.
Furthermore, Kganyago said the two officers were subsequently informed that they were no longer required to hand themselves over prior to their arrival at Brooklyn police station.
The spokesperson dismissed reports about the arrest of other officers apart from Khumalo and Madondo.
Kganyago’s comments come after KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi arrived at the station and told journalists that he wanted to “witness the arrest of his colleagues”, adding that there were also rumours about his imminent arrest.
