Given that the president and his deputy have openly contradicted one another about Mabuza’s departure, the EFF questioned the legitimacy of the office in charge of handling government business as well as its ability to carry out its duties effectively.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s handling of deputy president David Mabuza’s departure gave the impression that he was paranoid.
Given that the president and his deputy have openly contradicted one another about Mabuza’s departure, the EFF questioned the legitimacy of the office in charge of handling government business as well as its ability to carry out its duties effectively.
Mabuza said that he will be resigning this weekend. Later, it was revealed by Ramaphosa’s office that the president had requested his deputy to continue working until the transfer could be completed. The EFF asserted that it thought party politics and worries that Ramaphosa would resign early were at work.
“Cyril Ramaphosa is operating in a paranoid environment, so perhaps that is why he is hesitant. Regardless of that, we think it’s a strange characteristic of a government that is very secretive and it doesn’t make any logical sense why he doesn’t want DD Mabuza to resign,” said EFF national spokesperson Sinawo Tambo.
