All roads that were closed due to a community protest over electricity outages in Pimville and Dlamini, Soweto, have been reopened to traffic.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) confirmed on Monday that the affected routes were reopened after the local ward councillor engaged with residents and an agreement was reached to end the protest.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said all major roads affected by the protest are now fully operational.

“All roads previously closed due to protest action in Pimville and Dlamini have now been successfully reopened to traffic. While the roads are open, delays may still be experienced as normal traffic flow restores. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution,” said Fihla.

The protest had disrupted traffic on several major routes, including Klipspruit Valley Road at the Modjaji Street Circle, Klipspruit Valley Road at Chris Hani Road, Klipspruit Valley Road at Moroka Nancefield Road, and the intersection of Chris Hani Road and Elias Motsoaledi Road in Lakeview.

Fihla said law enforcement officials remain on the ground to clear any remaining debris, facilitate smooth traffic movement and monitor the area for any further disruptions.

He thanked motorists for their patience and cooperation during the disruptions.
