A warrant has been issued to search the Hyde Park home of Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the 28-year-old son of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe.
He was arrested on Thursday after allegedly shooting and wounding a 23-year-old employee at the upmarket Johannesburg residence.
Police have been working around the clock to secure a search warrant for the property.
After obtaining it, Mugabe and the second accused were transported back to the house under heavy police guard to allow investigators to conduct a thorough search.
According to sources close to the investigation, officers suspect drugs may be present at the property a development that could potentially broaden the scope of the case.
The search comes after officers were unable to locate the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting during initial investigations. Detectives are hoping the warrant will assist in recovering the weapon and any additional evidence linked to the alleged attempted murder.
Police nyalas and emergency management services that had been stationed at the scene have since cleared the area.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where formal charges are likely to be presented and bail proceedings may commence.
Investigations remain ongoing.
