The family of slain Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa says it is disappointed that the trial has been postponed yet again and his sister Nomalanga Meyiwa said the family was not informed on time because if the court officials did, they wouldn’t have travelled to court on Monday.

The trial was scheduled to sit at the North Gauteng High on Monday until Thursday this week however it was postponed to July 17 due the presiding judge, Tshifhiwa Maumela taking ill.

Meyiwa’s sister Nomalanga Meyiwa said: “We are very disappointed because we were hoping we will go into the courtroom and listen to the proceedings as promised. We are very disappointed that we travelled to get here without anyone informing us that the trial will be postponed. The Judge didn’t fall ill yesterday or on Friday. The day the judge fell ill they knew the trial would not proceed. They should have let us know as a family that trial will not proceed.

“It now seems as if no one cares about the family, especially Senzo’s mother. She is at home knowing that the trial is proceeding and it is not proceeding. It is very sad and emotional for us because it has been a long journey with this open wound without knowing what happened to Senzo and we have questions.

“We should be getting the answers to these questions from the court but we are not getting them because the trial has been postponed. We are confused as to what is happening,” she added.

Meyiwa was shot and killed at his singer girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo’s home in 2014 in an alleged botched robbery. Five men on trial for his murder have denied any involvement in the killing of the soccer star.
