The cell number that accused number five Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli allegedly used to call singer Kelly Khumalo was not registered in his name, the court sitting in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial heard on Monday.
This came out as the defence lawyer, Zandi Mshololo was cross examining the state witness’ cell phone data analyst and police officer Colonel Lambertus Steyn.
Last week Steyn said Khumalo received two phone calls from one of the suspects Sifisokuhle Ntuli on 02 August and 15 October 2014. On Monday, Mshololo questioned if the cellphone number was RICA’ed under Ntuli’s name.
Steyn said: “I am not sure but it was definitely not RICA’ed under his name because then I should have known and he couldn’t have used it if it was not RICA’ed.”
Mshololo also wanted to know the address the cellphone number was registered under.
“I am not sure about the address. But I am definitely sure it wasn’t his name,” said Steyn.
When asked how he knew that the number belonged to Ntuli if it was not registered in his name. The cellphone data analyst said that information was given to him by the investigation team.
“Like I mentioned in the court I did receive information from the investigating team who identified this number as being used by suspect number five,” said Steyn.
Mshololo questioned if the cellphone data analyst could place the number at Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus where Meyiwa was killed in 2014 or in the vicinity. Steyn said the five men were arrested “too late in the lapse stages so we couldn’t apply for 205.”
Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli have pleaded not guilty to the charges murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
