In Vaalbank, Mpumalanga, a man’s pit latrine was discovered to contain the remains of an eight-year-old girl. The guy, his girlfriend, and her kid were then stoned to death.
The family of Nomsa Sambo reported her missing on February 12, 2023. Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a police spokesperson, said that details concerning a male who was purportedly observed bringing Nomsa to his home had come to light.
“After their investigation on the information, police arrested him for questioning on February 13, 2023. In that context, an abduction case was opened, ” said Mohlala.
The 53-year-old male, though, refuted the accusations. The man was freed, according to Mohlala, since there wasn’t enough proof. On the other hand, information that Nomsa was inside the suspect’s house inside a pit latrine surfaced on Saturday morning.
When Vaalbank police and members of Search and Rescue arrived on the scene, they discovered three dead bodies—two males and one woman, both 51 years old—on the roadway.
The bodies allegedly bore severe wounds that suggested they may have been stoned, and when medical workers arrived at the site, they were pronounced dead, according to Mohlala.
Authorities also found that a Ford Bantam and a Volkswagen Jetta 4 had also been set on fire. The body of Nomsa was ultimately pulled from the pit latrine.
Zele Papo Machika, 53, his female companion Pauline Maubane, 51, and her son Thabo Maubane, 32, have already been confirmed as the three.
Afterwards, the authorities discovered that Thabo owned the burned-out automobiles.
In addition to three charges of murder being looked into in relation to the three adults who were killed, the case of kidnapping has subsequently been amended to murder, according to Mohlala. Police are looking into the incident, and no one has yet been detained.
“We encourage communities to cooperate with the police whenever they have information regarding crime instead of trying to exact revenge themselves because this country is governed by laws and a situation of mob justice, where people take the law into their own hands, can never be accepted or allowed,” said Mohlala.
