The cross examination of the fourth witness, Mthokozisi Thwala is expected to continue when the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes today.

Meyiwa, the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates skipper was shot and killed at his singer girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vorsloorus in October 2014.

Five men – Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli – have pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms without a license and possession of ammunition.

The defense lawyer of two of the five accused, Sipho Ramosepele questioned Thwala on his sobriety on the night Meyiwa was gunned down.

Thwala’s sobriety came under scrutiny when Ramosepele asked him to rate the level of his sobriety on a scale of 1-10.

Thwala said he was sober because he only drank two cans of Hunter’s Gold on the night in question.

“I was okay, only two Hunter’s Gold. I was okay,” said Thwala.

During testimony Thwala also told the court he refused to be part of the 10/10 films Netflix documentary despite numerous attempts by the company to try to get him to be in it.

Thwala however admitted to giving pictures of Meyiwa to the production company but was adamant he didn’t benefit financially.

The trial continues today.
