A case involving former investment banker and deacon Tshepo Ntsimane is edging closer to the High Court after prosecutors indicated the matter may proceed to trial following further review by the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).

Ntsimane, 58, appeared briefly in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with allegations relating to a serious sexual offence involving a 12-year-old girl in Dobsonville on Good Friday.

During proceedings, both the State and the defence agreed to a postponement to allow for further investigation. The court heard that the case docket has already been referred to the NDPP for a decision on whether it should be escalated to the High Court.

Magistrate Thelma Simpson noted that key evidence, including DNA results, is still outstanding. She also confirmed that the accused has not yet proceeded with a bail application, and retains the right to apply at a later stage.

The court further emphasised the importance of expediting the investigation, noting the seriousness of the matter. The case has been postponed to 1 July for further investigative work and prosecutorial consideration.

A final decision from the NDPP will determine whether the matter proceeds to trial in the higher court.
