The ANC in Tshwane is demanding that the municipality improve service delivery and is accusing it of charging residents “exorbitant and ridiculous amounts” for services based on estimates.
The branch took its demands to the streets on Friday by marching to the municipal offices and demanded better services for the residents.
The regional chairperson, Eugene Modise decried lack of service delivery and accused the DA-led municipality of incompetency and corruption.
“We know that since the DA and its coalition partners have been in administration their quality of service have declined to unacceptable levels. The street lights are not working, potholes are not closed and where the potholes are closed the quality of work is questionable.
“Sewage (infrastructure) is not fixed, exposing residents to health risks. The billing system is a mess that is not attended to,” said Modise.
“The City has no effective meter-reading, accounts are estimated leading to residents paying exorbitant and ridiculous amounts,” he added.
ANC also accused the metro of failing to effectively implement an indigent programme for deserving applicants.
“The purported review of the indigent programme is deliberately effectively holding the programme. It now takes two years to approve beneficiaries. The poor and vulnerable which include pensioners and child-headed households,” said Modise.
The party has also called on Gauteng Cogta MEC, Mzikayifani Khumalo to probe allegations of corruption leveled against the mayor, Randall Williams and the Speaker, Murunwa Makwarela for flaunting policies.
The ANC has given the DA-led coalition government seven days to respond. The City accepted the memorandum and said it will respond in due course
