One of South Africa’s black-owned commercial radio stations You FM has confirmed that Bryce Clarke, popularly known as DJ Ankletap or Malume, is joining its team and will be hosting the breakfast show ‘YOUR Mornings with Malume Tap’ from Monday 3 April 2023.
Ankletap one of the most successful radio personalities in South Africa broke the news today on his Instagram page that today (24 March 2023) marks the end of the era with his current employer, YFM, the Gauteng-based station he has been with with YFM for the past 11 years.
“As the longest-serving presenter in the station’s history, I leave as a legend but most importantly, as ‘Malume’ to all of you. I want to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and love throughout my time here,” he said.
For Malume, joining YOU FM in the North West is like coming home because this is where he was raised.
He said he is confident that his storytelling ability and focus on mental health and perspective on life in South Africa will continue to appeal to a broader audience.
“Returning to my roots at YOU FM is more than just a homecoming. It’s a chance to share my passion for radio with the people who have been with me since the beginning.
“I am thrilled to be part of every morning with my fellow North Westerners. This is where my journey started, and now, it’s time to make memories and create magic together,” said Ankletap.
Malume will co-host with former Voice of Wits presenter and a newcomer to commercial radio Boipelo “Kgosigadi” Hlapane while former Super Sports presenter Themba Boyi will be talking sports on the show.
The show will also focus on upliftment projects for the North West community through YOU FM’s CSI project called YOU Cares.
The Rustenburg-based YOU FM – the only commercial radio station in the North West – confirmed the changes in its lineup on the breakfast show in a statement.
Station Manager Thabo Muridili said he is delighted to have Malume, a star who is relatable and honest in his broadcast style, joining the “Purple Gang” the YOU FM team.
“We see this as a big scoop for the station and look forward to growing the YOU FM brand together with him and all our talent on the station,” said Muridili.
The station has extended its coverage footprint to Tshwane, West Rand the Northern parts of Johannesburg broadcasting on FM 89.8 -103.9, DSTV channel 842, youfm.co.za and the You FM app launched in November 2022.
