As part of its CSI initiative, You Cares, You FM donated a Food Lover’s Market grocery voucher worth R15 000 to the SOS Children’s Village near Rustenburg.
You FM staff members, popularly known as the Purple Gang, spent the day interacting with the children playing games, dancing and served them lunch.
The SOS Children’s Village cares for 80 children aged between eight months and 21 years old.
The children are divided into ten homes, which affords them the proper family structure, allowing them space to grow independently and integrate with others.
They currently have three learners who are studying at university, while one is in matric.
The senior mother at the homes Maureen Dibodu told Newsnote that they provide quality alternative and family set-up care for the children who can no longer live with their parents.
She says they are committed to ensuring the highest standards of care in all their programs, and work with government departments and communities to improve alternative childcare systems.
Dibodu appealed to community members and businesses to assist with donations, groceries, food, clothing and toiletries as they are facing financial challenges due to lack of funding.
She thanked You FM for donating the voucher, adding that will make a difference in the children’s lives.
“We are very happy, our children will have food on the table.
We really appreciate You FM’s effort.
It shows that we’re not forgotten,” said Dibodu.
During the handover of the voucher, You FM’s Marketing Manager Mahlatsi Modila thanked the warm welcomes they received from the management of SOS during her team’s first visit.
A couple of months ago the station held an activation at Food Lovers Cornerstone Shopping Center in Rustenburg, to raise awareness and funds for this initiative.
