A gender-based organisation in Kanana outside Orkney in the North West has condemned the killing of Jeniffer Kula, wife of ANC member of parliament Sibusiso Kula. The 31-year-old Kula was stabbed to death on Monday by unknown people while she was asleep at her home together with her.
Kula was with her 18-month-old daughter at the time of the incident. Her husband said it was after midnight when he returned home and discovered Kula lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
The reason for her killing is unknown but her family suspects a robbery that went wrong. The advocacy organisation, Mamua said Kula’s murder was the fourth since the beginning of the 16-day campaign of No Violence Against Women and Children.
The organisation’s chairperson Mohadio Mohapi urged the government to consider turning the 16 days into 365 days campaign of no violence against children.
“She is the fourth woman to be killed in Kanana. The government should consider converting the 16 days into 365 days campaign because we talk and advocate against the killing of women and children, we picket outside the court every time, pleading for the perpetrators not to get bail, but they always get bail,” she said.
Kula’s husband said their daughter was unharmed when he came home. “When I went to check on our baby, she was unharmed. I took my wife to Grace Mokhomo Clinic, but it was too late; she had already been pronounced dead when we arrived,” he added.
Sibusiso Kula pleaded with anyone who might have information on the murderer of his wife to come forward and assist the police’s investigation.
The memorial ceremony for Jeniffer Kula will be conducted on Thursday at Mokati Hall in Kanana, and her funeral will on Saturday at the the service will be conducted at the same venue.
