Ndodana Tshuma, the Zimbabwean-born man arrested in connection with the murders of his wife and two daughters in the United Kingdom, has had his case postponed to 22 July by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

Tshuma briefly appeared in court on Monday after his arrest in Kensington on Friday. He allegedly left the UK two days before the bodies of his wife and two daughters were discovered at their home in Bedfordshire.

The postponement will allow authorities to verify Tshuma’s immigration status before proceeding with the matter.

Prosecutor Henry Mbobo told the court that the state needed more time to establish whether Tshuma was legally in South Africa.

“We request this matter to be postponed to July 22 to verify the legality of the accused. After it is postponed, there will also be extradition proceedings in a district court, Your Worship,” Mbobo said.

Defence attorney Chrispian Machingure said the defence agreed to the postponement.

“We had a chat with the state. We are in agreement to the 22nd and we will take it from there,” he said.

Tshuma also appeared before the same court in relation to the UK’s extradition request. That matter was likewise postponed to 22 July.
